Yes indeed. I love this. And I love Ted Lasso! Jason Sudekis is from Kansas City and went to the same university I did. Tons of KC references in that show. Like, “barbecue sauce”!

Thanks Karen. Wow you must really be getting the show’s nuances at another level. What’s the significance of “barbecue sauce”?

By the way I think your newsletter really demonstrates what I’m referring to in my current edition- there’s a whole universe you pull out from under the leaves in your observations and writing ! No wonder I vibe so much with it !

PS - KC is a tough place to be vegan! (I am mostly vegan but I do eat meat once in a while, my body seems to need it.)

Thank you so much Vasant. I am learning! As to barbeque sauce, well, it's pretty much religion here, lol. The official food of Kansas City is definitely barbeque, with a particular unique specialty of "burnt ends" which I've never even seen outside the area but no bbq here would be complete without it. People have very strong opinions on the sauce here - and standard store brands would not even be considered. We have several long-standing bbq places - Arthur Bryant's, Jack Stack and Gates are the big three (my favorite of the three is Jack Stack and they have become experts at carryout in the pandemic). There are newer, more upscale places that have gotten a strong hold (and by newer, some of these are 20 years old, but the big three are 50-100 years old) like Q39 and Joe's. He's referenced some of them specifically in Ted Lasso. He's also reference other local landmarks. :)
