Dearest Yet Untitler,

I am raising the flag - or - acknowledging the raised, that too red flag, like Ananya and ending with a very small instalment.

For various reasons, my thoughts towards this instalment are semi-formed. But I thought I’d experiment with what comes when I play with these semi-thoughts and send them in your direction anyhow. It’s my homage to writers I admire who have kept going, despite everything telling them to stop.

Thank you, my Substack community. This includes you, dearest YUers. End-of-weeks have been dynamic and fruitful for two years because of your presence in my life.

‘Dead week’ leading up to NYE has called on me to be productive and ‘finish strong’. Bah! I’m savouring boredom, just like my dear friend Manas here.

There are still forests. There are still trees. I must love them along with A and A so we continue protecting them.

This image of a group of women in red saris playing kabaddi on a Pondicherry beach makes me happy, and think hopeful thoughts about my country. I’m glad A and A got to see it.

Visiting the fresco ‘Arjuna’s Penance’ in Mahabalipuram reminded me that there are still so many wonderful stories still to be heard.

This portrait of the guide who has told tourists the story of Arjuna’s penance for the past 54 years reminded me that there are still so many photographs to take, and made me wonder where I’ll land after 54 years of telling stories.
